Traditionally, career paths are based on the idea of "climbing the ladder". Success is measured by how high it is. Side movement generally does not look like a smart professional movement. This can be a problem for both the employee and the company. Whitney Johnson, author of "Disturbing Yourself: Putting Disruptive Innovation at Work," calls for a career interruption, not professional stairs. According to Johnson, when people reach the peak of their careers, they start to stagnate and get bored. They lose interest because saving isn't as fun as building something. His book made me wonder what really is behind the "Peter Principle". Maybe it's not just about promoting people to inefficiency. They may become incompetent because they are in recession.
